Survey for young people to have a say on health

[column]

Young people in Fylde and Wyre have been urged to have their say on health services where they live.

NHS Fylde and Wyre CCG, in partnership with Blackpool-based community interest company URPotential, has launched the Children and Young People’s project across the area to give people aged 13 to 25 a voice on GP services they access.

The CCG wants to provide suggestions on ways services can improve what they offer to young people and to also highlight areas of good practice.

Young people already involved in the project have created a questionnaire to be distributed throughout Fylde and Wyre with questions designed by young people for young people.

The questionnaire will measure children and young people’s experiences and gain an understanding of what they feel needs improving.

Both Fylde and Wyre youth councils alongside many of the local schools in the area have already lent their support to this project.

Chair of Fylde Youth Council and youth MP for Fylde Hal Meakin said: “This project isn’t just a box-ticking exercise, it is a way for young people to finally speak up about the services that affect them.

“If there has been a barrier between them and, for example, going to see the GP, this is the time to say what we can do to help them.

“It is all about removing borders for young people to access help when they need it. Even if one more young person is able to seek medical advice because of the work we do, I would have judged it a success.”

Volunteers are still being recruited to help with the project as results need to be collected and analysed.

Anyone aged 13 to 25 in the Fylde and Wyre area who is interested or wants more information about the project can contact Louise Harrison at URPotential on 01253 344398, visit www.urpotential.co.ukhttps://www.facebook.com/URPotential  or https://twitter.com/urpotentialuk
